- The interpreter must be qualified and have an official professional status.
- Registration with NRPSI – National Register of Public Service Interpreters is required in most cases.
- Must be able to work in consecutive interpreting and whispered interpreting (chuchotage).
- Must strictly maintain confidentiality.
- Must interpret accurately and literally, without adding, changing, or omitting meaning.
- Must remain neutral: no advice, no influence, no emotions, no personal comments.
- Must inform the court if they do not understand a term or a participant.
